WATER AND SANITATION

HOPE Charity aims to increase access to safe, clean drinking water and sanitation facilities across the Sri Lanka. We believe that no one should be without clean water.

Access to clean water, a fundamental human right, remains a persistent challenge in many remote and backward regions Sri Lanka. Our water program is dedicated to enhancing access to clean water through both short-term relief efforts, such as distributing water via tankers and bottles, and long-term solutions like establishing wells and boreholes. By ensuring clean water availability, we mitigate waterborne diseases and promote overall health and well-being.

In the past year, we’ve witnessed a heightened demand for water relief in Sri Lanka, with expectations of the crisis worsening in the coming years. Responding to this urgency, we provided nearly half a million liters of emergency water relief to various areas, addressing immediate needs. Notably, following prolonged water shortages, especially post-floods in Sri Lanka, we drilled six boreholes to supply schools, Madrassahs, Masjids, and local communities with a reliable water source.

assessment to ensure optimal utilization and cost-effectiveness, ensuring lasting benefits for the communities we serve.

Our community well program continues to bridge the gap in water accessibility for communities. In the past year, we completed 20 wells, with 15 more underway, benefiting an additional 6,600 families. With an average turnaround time of 2 to 3 months per well, we swiftly provide clean water, addressing immediate needs effectively.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our CWSP program, recognizing its efficiency in providing sustained access to vital water resources, particularly in rural communities facing water scarcity or distant water sources. Additionally, we seek to augment borehole projects and explore cost-effective filtration systems where necessary, further enhancing our capacity to respond to emergency water relief situations promptly and effectively, utilizing water tankers and pipeline connections as needed
